Velux Blinds: Frequently Asked Questions
It is important that you also refer to our Terms and Conditions before placing your order.
Tell me about your next day delivery service?
Certainly-we offer a next day delivery service on certain stock Velux blinds that we hold in our own warehouse. Please refer to "Delivery" for more details.*
* Only selected blinds are available for next day delivery-these are from the Blackout blinds, Blackout Remote Control blinds and Venetian blind range. We do not offer next day delivery for any of the Roller or Pleated blinds. Those blinds which are available for next day delivery are clearly indicated as such when you select your colour on the website.
How long will it take for my Velux Blinds to be delivered?
All of our blinds are sent over direct from Velux in Denmark. They are delivered in the UK via Initial City Link.
You may notice that some other retailers quote a delivery time that is less than seven-ten working days. Please bear in mind that the delivery schedule and arrangements for these companies is exactly the same as the one used by ourselves (ie) the same time for deliveries should be allowed.
If seven or over working days (please allow for weekends and Bank Holidays when calculating the dates) have elapsed and you have not received your blind, please contact us at sales@loftblinds.co.uk quoting the customer order reference you would have got from us at the time you placed the order-normally a five digit number-we can then try to ascertain an e.t.a for you, as well as give you a reference number for the blinds and the contact telephone number of the depot responsible for its delivery.
We cannot ring the depot ourselves and do this, as the staff at those locations will only discuss and arrange specific deliveries with the addressee.
What if I am not at home when delivery is attempted?
Initial City Link will leave you a card stating the date and time of attempted delivery. You will then be able to contact your local depot to either arrange a new delivery time, or to call in and pick them up yourself.
If they are able to, City Link drivers will either leave the blinds with a neighbour, or a safe place in or around your property that is easily accessible. Again, if they do this, a card should be left for you stating where the blind has been left.
What if I need to return my Velux Blind?
Contact Loft Blinds on 01243-574726, quoting your reference number. If you need to return the blind because of a fault or if it is damaged, we will send out a returns label to you and order a replacement on the same day.
If you made an error when ordering or have decided that you want a different colour/blind, we will still send you a returns label, but will only normally send out the replacement blind once Velux are in receipt of the returned item.
Please note that you will only be able to return the blinds in the original packaging. We will also not be able to accept returns if the blind has (a) been fitted, or (b) you have had it for a period of three months or over.
Returns labels are issued by the Royal Mail.
For 24 hour delivery blinds, if, for any reason, you decide that you wish to return the blinds, please note that we will raise a charge of £14.95 to cover our costs in arranging collection. This charge will apply in all instances unless the blinds that you receive are different to those ordered or are damaged/faulty upon receipt. Please also note that, if the size of the window is given in error and we send the blind as per those instructions, only for it to be established that the window size is different, this charge will still apply-do ensure, therefore, that you give the correct window size when ordering and also ensure that any third party giving you the information (ie) a builder, decorator etc, gives the correct size-measure the glass if you are unsure. We cannot be held responsible for errors made when the order is placed and have to assume that the information we are given is correct. The collection charge will apply in these circumstances.
Do you deliver to the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe?
At present we only deliver to UK addresses (please note, your full and correct postcode is essential). We do not offer delivery to the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe.
What are your Postage and Packing costs?
Postage and packing is free of charge.
Please note that we cannot deliver to a PO Box number address.
Can I give my neighbours or work address for delivery?
Yes-if it is your work address, please put those details in the “Delivery Address” part of the order form. If you want the blinds left with a neighbour, please let us know at the time of your order, so we can advise Velux and ICL straight away.
Am I able to change the delivery address once the Velux Blind has been ordered?
Once you have placed your order and the blind has been dispatched, it is not possible for the delivery address to be changed-the blind will have to be delivered to that address, as it cannot be intercepted and the address details changed. If the order has not been dispatched, it may be possible to do so however-in these cases, it would need to be within a few hours of your initially placing the order, however, even in this instance, we cannot guarantee that we would be able to amend the information for you.
24 Hour Delivery
If you need to rearrange delivery to another address, including after the original delivery has been attempted, we must raise a charge to arrange this for you. This charge is £17.99. With that in mind, if you do need a redelivery, it is probably a good idea to think of either a safe place or location the driver can leave your blinds when the second delivery is made.
Why do the blinds take 7-10 working days for delivery? Do you have a quicker delivery option I can use?
All of our Velux blinds are shipped, new and sealed, from the Velux factory in Denmark. They are subject to custom checks at both the Danish and UK ports, as well as the ambient sea conditions at the time of the crossing. This is why the time quoted for delivery is up to ten working days, as it is taking into consideration all of those parameters. However, it is usually a little quicker than that, and we find, in general, that the blinds take about a week, or just over, from the order date to delivery.
Delivery time is also, of course, dependent on the speed and efficiency of the ICL couriers getting the blinds loaded and delivered, hence the importance of all of your address details, especially the postcode, being 100% accurate.
Please note that we do not, and will not take or admit responsibility for any delays, losses, or errors in delivery made by third party sources, specifically couriers and their representatives and employees/agents.
My Velux Blind has not been delivered, but my credit/debit card has been charged-why is this?
Standard retail practice when ordering goods on-line, and the one adopted by many major businesses that have on-line facilities (eg) Amazon, Argos, is to take payment and ensure that goods are paid for at the time of dispatch. Logistically, it would be very difficult and costly to take payment only after the goods have been delivered.
Will you fit my blind for me?
We do not offer a fitting service. However, full instructions are included with the blind, and it should take you no longer than 10-15 minutes to install.

Will your blinds fit any Velux window?
Almost certainly. If your window size is not specified on the website, Email us the details of your window to sales@loftblinds.co.uk so we can ascertain availability and prices for you. Please do note that we only retail Velux blinds and cannot order or recommend non-Velux blinds or blinds for windows other than Velux.
To identify your Velux window, check on the window code, as below-

You can then enter the applicable details on our drop down menus and continue your order.
-
Roller blinds-keep out direct sunlight but do let some light filter through. Code RFL.
-
Blackout blinds (previously Siesta)-even lighter colours (ie) White, Beige etc, blackout the light. Ideal for bedrooms. Code DKL.
-
Venetian blinds-controls direction and amount of light. Ideal for bathrooms. Code PAL.
-
Pleated blinds-soften the light without darkening the room. Code FHL/FPL.
What Has Happened To The Siesta Range Of Blinds?
They are still available-but are now called Blackout blinds. Nothing else has changed, they still blackout the sun (even the light coloured ones) and act as a thermostatic regulator around the window due to their aluminium backing.
Can I Order Some Colour Swatches From You?
Yes-we can arrange for them to go out to you by 1st class post for next day delivery. Order online.
How Does The Swatch Ordering System Work?
Follow the instructions on the website in order to request and pay for your Velux blinds swatches.
For each blind you order against a particular swatch we will refund that £1 at the time of your order (eg) request 5 swatches, order 5 blinds=£5 off total of order (or) request 6 swatches, order 3 blinds=£3 off total of order.
Orders placed over a weekend will be dispatched on the following Monday (unless Public/Bank Holiday).
The swatches will be dispatched to you, by 1st class post on the day you order them-providing you place the order by 1pm (no weekend service available). Please enter your full name, address and postcode clearly when placing your order for swatches as the swatches will be sent to that address directly and as input by yourself-so be careful not to make any spelling mistakes!
When the swatches arrive, make your choice then follow the written instructions on your enclosed receipt as to how to redeem £1 off each blind you select (up to the total of your original swatch request).
We cannot be held responsible for delays in delivery of swatch materials by the Royal Mail
What sort of blind would you recommend for a damp environment (eg) a bath or shower room?
Any manually operated Velux blind will be suitable for a bathroom or shower room. They are extremely water and humidity resistant and can easily be kept dry and clean with a simple, non-abrasive kitchen sponge.
Just how much of a “blackout” effect does the Blackout blind give?
Near total blackout is provided by the Blackout blinds, making them the ideal option for a bedroom. Even the brightest sunlight can be excluded, the light is also prevented from getting in at the sides. These blinds also feature an outer aluminium foil which helps reflect excessive heat in the summer, whilst retaining the heat from within the room in winter.
*For more information about each blind, please refer to the “About…” sections on each blind on the website.
Please note that there is no such thing as a "Blackout Roller blind" -the Roller blinds are not blackout blinds, they will keep out direct sunlight but still allow some light to filter through, the Blackout blinds are the blackout blinds. Essentially, if you want to black out the light altogether, ask for a Blackout blind, if you are happy for some light to still filter through, ask for a Roller blind. Or contact us for further details.
Is there a guarantee for the blinds and how long is it for?
Products purchased through our on-line store are guaranteed for two years. This guarantee does not in anyway affect you statutory rights.
How can I reach a blind that is out of normal reach?
To open and close the blind, you will need to purchase a rod, these are available on our website. Please also note that you will need to purchase an adaptor for each blind that you will be opening via the rod. Alternately, you can order the Siesta remote controlled blinds.
What is the difference between a Roller and Blackout blind?
The Blackout blind will provide near total blackout from the sun and outdoor light. A Roller blind will block out sunlight, but still let light into the room.
Can I replace the old blinds fittings in my window in order to fit a new one?
Yes. It is recommended that your remove and replace all of the original fittings that you might have had with an old blind, as all of the new blinds come complete with all the fittings and extras required when you install them.
Where do your Velux Blinds come from?
Our Velux blinds are shipped in, brand new and sealed, directly from Velux in Denmark.
Do you have a catalogue?
We can arrange for a Velux blinds catalogue to be sent you, email us at sales@loftblinds.co.uk to order one. Do please note that the brochure you receive will be a Velux one, and, if you wish to benefit from our discount on Velux retail prices that we currently offer from blinds, you will need to order from ourselves and not Velux.
Do I need a separate remote control unit for each Blackout remote control blind that I order?
No. Although each Blackout remote controlled blind will contain an individual remote control unit, you will only need to operate one, for however many blinds you have. The output beam on the unit is very narrow, so it is highly unlikely that, when you point it at any one blind to open/close, any of the adjoining ones will be affected.
Do you have a showroom I can visit?
No. We are purely set up to run a competitive and highly professional retail sales and delivery service for Velux blinds in the UK, and operate out of offices in Southern England. We have no showroom facilities or blinds in stock or on display.
How Do I Order A Velux Pleated/Blackout Combi Blind?
This combination system requires you to order TWO separate Velux blinds per window.
First of all, choose any of the Velux Blackout blinds from the range shown on our website.
Once you have selected a Blackout blind, click onto the Velux Pleated blinds part of the site, and, on the link, click again where it says ‘click here for pleated/siesta combi blinds (FPL)’.
It is important that you choose a Velux blind from the FPL range for your combination blinds set. The FHL Pleated blinds are not compatible with Blackout blinds.
It is also important to remember that you do need to order the two separate Velux blinds, as outlined above. Ordering the FPL Pleated blinds alone will not give you the combination effect-the important thing to remember here is that you will have two blinds on one window.
My Velux window has white polyurethane frames, can I get Velux blinds to match?
Yes-these are known as “white line” blinds. At present, you cannot order these via our website, but we can order them for you manually, so you would need to contact us and place the order by telephone. The costs for the “white line” blinds are different to those on-line, so please contact us for a quotation for your window type and size-in most instances, the cost of the GGU/GPU blind will be the standard cost for the "normal" blind plus an extra £7 per blind.
Any queries, please contact us enquiries@loftblinds.co.uk or on 01243-574726.
Has the design of the Velux Roller blinds changed?
Yes. In July 2005, Velux commenced the phasing out of the old RNL-type Roller blinds. These were the ones with wooden side panels and notches on their sides, into which the blind was secured. The new Velux Roller blinds (code RFL) have aluminium side channels, thus ensuring the smooth running of the blinds which can now be positioned wherever you desire on the windows, rather than, as with the RNL-model, being restricted to where the side notches were available.
What If I Need A Velux Blind That Isn’t On Your Website?
Please contact us with the details of the Velux blinds you require-we will need the window type and size, as well as the details of the blind you require. Once we have that, we will contact Velux for availability and price details and call you back, the price that we retail it for will still be discounted, as are all of our blinds.
Some popular Velux blinds that we can order for you that are not on the website include the GVA and GVT series for roof lights. These are currently available in Roller blinds only, and in a choice of two colours, Beige (1086) and Dark Blue (9050).
We can also order for the VFE ½ 60 blind-which is also known as the M31. Essentially, as long as the window is a genuine Velux one, we should be able to source and deliver you the correct Velux blind.
My Velux Window Doesn’t Have A Plate/Code, Can I Still Order?
First and foremost, check that your window is a genuine Velux window. We cannot help you if it is another make.
If it is a Velux window, but does not have a plate or any other means of identifying its type and size, then please measure the inside glass size, in cms, and let us know that. We will try to ascertain your type of window from that information, although we cannot guarantee 100% that you will receive the correct blind for the Velux window from that information alone.
We hope that this information will have answered any of the queries you might have. Please also refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information. If you have any further questions, please email us at enquiries@loftblinds.co.uk, we will be glad to answer them for you.
